The Relevance of International Women’s Day in the Exercise of Regional Leadership

Mar 6, 2026 | Blog Eng, Costa Rica Eng

Women are brave, strong, and valuable. While it is true that in many sectors the celebration of International Women’s Day is questioned, we are also faced with a social and political reality that does not diminish the importance of this commemoration.

Women are brave. Throughout history, we have had to fight for our right to vote, for inclusion in spaces that were once reserved exclusively for men, and for the opportunity to step into professional environments where we were initially considered only for certain roles.

We are strong because history has required us to rise above many circumstances. We have had to break social and gender barriers, using the sharp and capable intelligence of the female mind, knowing how and when to assert ourselves in social, cultural, and professional spaces.

And we are valuable because we are a central pillar of society. We perform literal miracles to balance professional responsibilities and family life. For those of us who are mothers, each day involves finding equilibrium between our work and our children’s needs.

From my position as a Regional Director, I am deeply grateful for the remarkable examples I had while growing up:

  • My two grandmothers, each with her own virtues, both strong women who faced life with determination.
  • My aunt, a professional woman of character who led in a “man’s world” and became a reference for her generation.
  • And above all, my mother, who embodies the three adjectives of this article—she is brave, strong, and valuable.

Her example has been my greatest guide in life, both personally and professionally.

It is true that we still have much to overcome as a society and as a region. However, that does not prevent us from recognizing what has been achieved and honoring the women who have shaped our lives.

I hope to be a role model for my little ones in the future.

Happy International Women’s Day.
